Doug at Black River Hybrids was great! He squeezed me in sooner than expected to fix my 2014 Prius with a blown head gasket and was honest, knowledgeable, and great with communication. He asked detailed questions before booking to confirm the issue, kept me updated throughout the repair, and got my car running in just a few days. Pricing was very reasonable—on the low end of what we researched—and he even did an oil change, topped off fluids, and cleaned the exterior. Highly recommend!

Our 2013 Prius V developed a head gasket leak. Over several months we had noticed that when we started the car in the morning, the engine was running really rough for a few seconds. Then the car had started throwing some error codes for misfires on cylinders 1 and 2. Doug helped me confirm that the head gasket was almost certainly the problem (I had replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils, but then the car started losing coolant). Doug has a really methodical and stepwise approach to fixing the head gaskets on these cars. He has checkpoints built in along the way where I could choose to stop the repair if he uncovered anything that was going to be more catastrophic (like a bent piston rod). Thankfully, my head gasket repair was pretty simple. Not only did he fix the head gasket, but he also clued me in to some other issues (corrosion related) that I should address to help keep the car on the road longer (value added service!). His price to do this repair is really reasonable, and it’s making me look at the marketplace for Gen 3 Prius’ that people are junking because of blown head gaskets! There’s a lot of cars out there that could be fixed at a reasonable price (and kept on the road). Go Black River Hybrids!!!

We were ready to call Rawhide to donate our Prius until we spoke with Doug at Black River Hybrid. He was incredibly honest and kept uniformed by phone, videos and in person. Plus he saved us over $2000! His pricing was honest and upfront. We always knew exactly what he was thinking and the problem-solving he did to identify a testy engine rattle. So pleased, impressed and thankful for his taking the time and efforts to totally fix the problem with our favorite little car!! Plus he even washed it before we picked it up. My 2014 Lexus CT200h turns out shares the same engine as the 2010-15 Prius. Toyota dealer in town recommended a new used engine at a cost of $8300. We haven’t abused our CT but felt it was too much $to put in a 10 year old car. It sat on the dealer lot for almost a month before we found Doug. Finding out that this is a problem for these particular engines was bad news but finding Doug has a solution to the problem was great news! Completed the job when said and only $2200. We are very satisfied with the results and Doug is a great guy to talk with and is honest as they come. Thanks Doug!

Doug saved our Prius V from going to the junk heap! Our car blew a head gasket, and we had a heck of a time finding anyone interested/willing to try the repair. Those we did find wanted exorbitant prices. Doug charged a fair price, and spoke to both my wife and I separately about the proposed repair and odds of success.
