Though I'm not a huge fan of the new management at pep boys, my experience was saved by Omar. He was honest and attentive and answered all of my questions without any sort of attitude or rudeness. No matter how dumb my question was, he was happy to answer it and gave me all of the information I needed to understand what was going on with my vehicle. I have been to many mechanics and lots of different pep boys, but I will always come back to Lakewood to be handled by Omar! He is glad to help and willing to make sure that all transactions are understood thoroughly by the customer. I will always recommend pep boys in lakewood, as long as Omar is there. Thanks

Be careful to check that the location you pick offers the service you’re looking for before you go there. Tried to get the conventional oil change that they advertised online and when I went to the store they didn’t offer that so I ended up paying twice as much for the next cheapest option.

Honestly I have been coming here for years. I got my alternator replaced 12/07/2024. The maintenance person forgot to tighten the cerpitine belt so that caused my break and battery light to come back on I took it back in to fix because I have the extended warranty. I drove it home and didn't drive it again for a couple of days. The break and battery came on and turned off after 1 minutes. Autoclub came out and tested my alternator and battery and said the alternator is bad. The voltage regulator is not working. Once I drove to AutoZone the break and battery light came back on AutoZone tested the alternator and battery and said the voltage regulator in the alternator was bad and it needed to be replaced. I took it back to pep boys and the mechanic said you just need a new battery. They didn't replace the alternator because that good battery was temporarily helping the charging system purchased the new battery from pep boys drove it home on 12/18/2024 the battery and break light came back on again. I had to wait for my day off from work to deal with the issue unfortunately that was on Christmas day. I figured that I will deal with everything in the new Year. Well guess what? As I was driving home on January 3rd my car cuts off. Autoclub tested my alternator and battery again and my alternator was registering at 8 voltage.now 4 weeks after the original alternator replacement job and 5 trips back and forth to pep boys dealing with the alternator and battery issues once again I am still dealing with the alternator issue. Now since I have had that very good pep boys battery in my car with a bad alternator for 2 weeks , pep boys not only have to replace the alternator but they also have to put another new battery in my car the same day because having a good battery in your car with a bad alternator will weaken the new battery. It is a domino effect. I can't blame pep boys for the defective alternator, but all this back and forth could have been avoided if during the original alternator replacement job the cerpitine belt would have been tightened. Since it wasn't tightened it caused the alternator to go bad and blew out my pump as well. and I should have assisted that the alternator be replaced when two different autoclub tech told me on two different occasions that the alternator was bad, and also two different AutoZone tech told me on two different occasions as well that the alternator was bad. Shame on me for not trusting my instincts and for replying on pep boys to deliver on the quality of work and expertise that used to be bar none to the other repair shop. Yes my car is older but I maintain it well. I am at a lost for words...back to the pep boys on del amo ave. Lakewood CA shop I go. Everything thing is still under warranty.

I have given a lot of business to this company and no issues.. Today i had a flat tire after buying tires two weeks ago.. This was not side wall damage but a defect to the tire along the tread. A big gash with no apparent of nail or other hazard. The tire just popped turning a corner. I purchased the roadside warranty.. They could not plug the tire.. I said well, give me a new tire. And they charge me for installation and another roadside of $55.00.. Just $55.. But pricipal. This was the sales rep today.. It should have been free. I have had issues with evap parts.. they analyze and replace because under warranty.. For free. This company just lost my business for good.. Too bad.

Stay away from this place ! Omar was nice at first and told us it was $100 for a diagnostic so we had our car towed in. He then proceeds to call us and tell us it would be another $330 to figure out the problem because they needed to remove the manifold. When questioned his whole demeanor changed and became rude and all he could say was “Like I said… I’m not a mechanic” . Well if you’re the spokesperson for the mechanic you should probably try to learn the craft. We came because we thought it would be cheaper at Pep boys vs. the dealership. He then proceeded to giggle and give us $8000 dollar estimate for a new engine. Once we picked up the vehicle there were plastic clips missing and the manifold was not put together properly. I confronted Karla about the issue and she told me they never touched the manifold! That’s was we paid the extra $330 for. Then they both had a disgusting attitude and almost made us feel threatened. I cannot believe how bad of an experience we had and I had the car towed to the dealership where they charged $230. We should have NEVER went there from the beginning!
