Lindsey is great!! She is always looking out for our vest interest. She does not push but gives you great information of what needs to be done and a good way to go about it. Also the techs are great. A few visits back the AWD in our car was not engaging correctly. Their master tech figured out what was wrong in the first visit for that. We did go other places and they just wanted to replace parts to see if one of them would work. In recent years Pep Boys has really stepped up their game. They are hiring great technicians that you can trust. If you need service on your car or truck stop in and see Lindsey. Tell her Mike sent you and she will make sure to do the best job for you.

I recently took my 2000 Toyota 4Runner to your shop in Yucaipa, CA (Store: 1493) on Monday, December 16, 2024, for issues with brake performance. Specifically, the brake pedal felt squishy and hard intermittently, and the brakes would work periodically and then not at all. I dropped off my vehicle at around 12:30 PM, and by 2:47 PM (important to note), I received a call informing me that they had identified the issue. According to the technician, the right rear axle seal had failed, leaking transmission fluid onto the right rear brake assembly, contaminating the shoes, etc. They quoted me over $1,200 for the repair. I decided to visit the shop in person to see what they were talking about, as I had my reasons to be skeptical. Here’s why: back in October (10/23), the same exact issue occurred, but it was the left rear axle seal that failed, contaminating that brake assembly. Despite the contamination back then, I never once experienced a loss of brake pedal reactivity. The symptoms this time were drastically different, leading me to believe it was a pressure-related issue. Still, I approved the repair (Monday at 3:00 PM) and was told it would be ready the next day (Tuesday). Tuesday came and went without any updates. I waited all day for a call, but nothing. Finally, at 4:31 PM, I called for an update. I was then informed that my axle had to be sent off somewhere to be resealed. While I would have been fine with that, I felt completely left in the dark. There was no two-way communication, and I was left carless under the assumption my vehicle would be ready that day. Wednesday – Radio silence. Thursday – Radio silence. Friday – I called at 11:25 AM for an update.. I was then informed that they "could not get the brake pedal to pressurize or stiffen," which, mind you, was my original complaint. At 5:05 PM that same day, I finally received a call notifying me that my brake booster was defective, and fixing it would cost a total around $2,000. I declined this repair. From my perspective, it seems like the technicians saw a fluid leak during the initial inspection, assumed it was the root cause, and called me with a $1,200 estimate without properly diagnosing the actual issue. Then, after I approved the repair, they failed to communicate for four days, only to inform me later that the original issue still wasn’t resolved. It feels like they performed an unnecessary repair and expected me to pay for it, all while neglecting to fix the very problem I brought the truck in for. I ended up paying just over $1000 for the ‘fixes’ and prior to leaving I had 2 mechanics tell me they took it for a test drive and the brake pedal is reactive so the Booster may not be bad but it might go out soon. As soon as I put my truck in drive I had ZERO brakes for the drive home. The vehicle is in worse condition than when I brought it in.

So last Sunday, I went into Pep Boys in Yucaipa cause I was able to make an appointment at 2 PM for a wheel alignment. I got there at 1:50. I was then told by a gentleman that it only be a couple hours. I also looked at my phone app, which I have pictures I can prove it That my car would be ready by 5 PM by 5 PM. My car according to the app hadn’t even been assigned a technician so I decided to call down there to see what’s wrong with my car because I had to be somewhere by six so I call a young lady picks up the phone. I tried to explain my situation and wondering why my car isn’t even on the lift or has been on the lift and she really was telling me what does she want me to do about it talking about herself? Does she want her me to push a car off the lift so my car can get there and be worked on I said no that’s not the point. I’m trying to make the point as you guys promised my car in a couple hours and it’s now 5 o’clock it’s right at the time you promised me my car and my car hasn’t even been moved so I told her call me when my car is done But I did not feel comfortable cause if there’s a car that’s been on the lift for three hours and isn’t fixed and that’s why my car isn’t being worked on then at this point I really don’t trust what you guys are doing there so I went and picked up my car I told her that I thought her behavior when I’m trying to understand what is going on was unacceptable and unprofessional she apologize but at that time the damage is already been done. I think that their customer service was lacking and maybe this young lady or older lady I should say Needs to learn how to talk to people even if it isn’t her fault that the car isn’t being worked on, but maybe call the customer and tell them. Hey the car is gonna be here a little longer than you thought no matter if she didn’t initially help me it still would’ve been nice to get a heads up since I had to be somewhere at six I could’ve made other arrangements and yes, I know that cars aren’t always done when their promised but it’s a wheel alignment. I went the next morning. Had an 8 AM appointment at another business down the street and had my car within an hour back. In the pictures below show one before I called That I had an estimate time of Completion after I refreshed my screen, I took another screen shot, and that estimated time was gone After I had talked to the rude young lady I just found it extremely interesting that the time was gone.

The staff are very friendly and fair. It's hard to find an auto repair that you can trust but I trust these guys. The manager, Ken, is awesome. Everyone else is great, too.

Matthew, Lindsey, and their crew, performed a proper assessment on my old truck and found that the speed sensor and speedometer were faulty and located the parts needed to fix the issue. These folks call to keep a (me) customer informed. My truck is now running at optimal performance and I attribute that to these fine folks at Yucaipa Pep Boys!
