9/10/2024 -- When the wind blows NW from this refinery an odor of burning, rotting garbage permeates the air in the towns of Elizabeth, Roselle, and Roselle Park. This odor has a nauseatingly sweet aftertaste. This odor enters residential buildings via open windows in day and at night. It fills the streets of towns and makes it uncomfortable to live there. I've noticed this disgusting odor several years ago. It came and went intermittently, randomly. I had a few theories about its source. But could not yet determine the exact pollution source. This cat & mouse game went on for years. Recently I was driving on Route 278, adjacent to Philips 66 and the familiar foulness entered my car. And bongo! I had found the source. What can I say? The refinery isn't using efficient air scrubbers to detach foul particles such as Sulfur element from air prior to releasing this polluted air as exhaust from its smoke stacks. When the wind blows NE from said smoke stacks it travels into said towns, where these heavy particles settle out and cause pollution. Air pollution causes lung cancer! Management, directors, owners, stakeholders, and government regulators need to address this pollution ASAP! Please help. Protect your citizens!
